Hickory Grove Gardens is hiring for the 2025 season. We are looking for 2 hardworking individuals who are passionate about local flowers and/or sustainable agriculture. Our farm produces thousands of stems each season for our local wholesale customers, collective sales, farmers' market, CSA, and bulk buckets. We have a close-knit team of folks working here, and are hoping to find someone who's like-minded with a strong work ethic. This job is not just "playing with flowers," some days are grueling and the work is never easy. Our team stays positive and has fun, despite the long days! These two positions will help with daily farm tasks, i.e.: harvesting, seeding, weeding, mulching, planting, pruning, etc. These individuals will also help with filling orders, packing orders, bouquet making (1-2x/week). The ideal candidates will be able to work alone as well as on a team, work quickly and efficiently while remaining detail-oriented. We pride ourselves in producing top-quality cut flowers, so attention to detail is key!
Full Time Crew Member Job Description:
Planting – greenhouse seeding, transplanting by hand, using the paperpot system
Harvesting – quickly and efficiently harvest flowers to fill outgoing orders. Attention to detail is key here. The flowers that leave this farm must be top-quality.
Cultivation of field and tunnel crops – hand weeding and hoeing
General fieldwork (but not limited to): bed preparation, fertilizing, netting, trellising, mulching, pruning, moving compost, irrigation set up/take down, and pest/disease management
Bouquet making – this happens once a week and is not a guaranteed job or top priority for this position.
Qualifications:
One season farming (flower or otherwise) experience strongly preferred, but not required
Hardworking, energetic and self-motivated individual that works quickly and efficiently
High attention to detail and quality control
Can work long hours in all weather conditions (i.e. cold, wet, hot, humid) while maintaining a positive attitude and morale
Fast learner, asks questions and willing to accept feedback
Can work quickly individually and/or in a team environment to produce top-quality outcomes
Physically fit and able to perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks (i.e. repetitive bending up and down, squatting, kneeling and standing on a daily basis) and must be able to lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.
Must have valid driver’s license and dependable transportation. Must be reliable and punctual.
Schedule: This is a full-time, seasonal position (March – November), Monday through Friday, approximately 35-40 hours/week, including some holidays. Position begins late March. Additional hours may be required during the busy Spring (April-June), especially at/around Mother’s Day and fall (September - November) harvest seasons. The daily schedule is dictated by weather conditions and the needs of the farm. Some flexibility is required. Generally, workdays are 9 hours long, begin at 7:00-7:30am and ends at 4:00-4:30pm (with a 1hr unpaid lunchbreak) Compensation: Starting $18/hr, dependent on experience. Additionally, employees are welcome to any flowers and produce grown on the farm.
